Muldoon’s Saloon was established in 1973, a year before the Muldoon’s in Newport, by Joseph Brady. Joseph “Joe” Brady bought the bar with some friends in the 1970’s and turned a bar that was called the “The Saloon” into Muldoon’s Saloon. During the 1970’s the bar was located next door at 5656 North Paramount Blvd Long Beach, CA 90805.
Joe Brady sold the bar in 1984 to Charles “Chuck” Melson. Charles did a fine job maintaining the liveliness of the bar and in 2009 decided to sell after what the bar regulars have suggested were due to health related issues. He sold to Kathy Wilson and the bar continued to stay open.
In July of 2016 The Shamrock Hospitality Group took over Muldoon’s from Kathy Wilson and decided to take Muldoon’s into a different direction. Their goal is to make the place into a more neighborhood Irish Sports Bar.
The success of Muldoon’s in the past was due to the heavily industrial economic environment that Long Beach prospered from historically. Companies like McDonnell Douglass built many aircrafts at the Long Beach airport, Boeing was also not too far away, many Longshoreman lives in the area, as well as petroleum related industries. The graveyard shifts are what made Muldoon’s 20 hour a day 7 days a week viable. Many workers would do a night shift and then after work which would be around 6am would want to go drink a beer with their colleagues after work.
John “JT” Taula has a long history working in the bar industry in the Long Beach/ Lakewood Area. He worked at Rustlers which is now called Brien O’Connors in Lakewood and until recently had a residency at the Red Dog Saloon down the street. John also has a long record of working in the beverage industry. JT also has a passion for playing darts and competes regularly at local dart tournaments.
John English also has a long history in the Long Beach/Lakewood Area. He is the owner of a company called Automated Entertainment which is a company that provides bars with pool tables, darts, juke boxes, foosball tables, and other games and enmities to bars all over Southern California. John English has a passion for pool and competes regularly in local and out of state pool tournaments.
Patrick Conlon is from Orange County where he started working in the bar industry. He earned a degree in Business Administration with an emphasis on Entertainment and Tourism at Cal State Fullerton. He has been a featured bartender on David Tutera’s “My Fair Wedding”. He has worked at several bars but most of his bar experience comes from working in the catering industry where he started the company Stir It Up Bar Crafts + Bev Catering. Stir It Up is a bar catering company that has done thousands of events around Southern California both big and small. Stir It Up is the bar catering arm of Muldoon’s Saloon.
